Georges Meunier

Born in Saint-Cloud, France, in 1869, Georges Meunier relocated to Paris as a young adult and enrolled at the National School of Fine Arts. His mentor there was the esteemed artist Joseph-Robert Fleury. After completing his studies, Meunier further honed his skills at The School for the Decorative Arts, where he explored both classical and modern design techniques. These experiences would later inform his distinctive approach to poster design. At the turn of the century, Meunier's work was heavily influenced by the advertising poster pioneer, Cheret. He succeeded Cheret at the Chaix printing house, assuming the roles of principal artist and director. However, Meunier's tenure as a poster artist was brief, as he soon transitioned into a career as a book illustrator, which he pursued until his passing. During his time as a poster artist, Meunier's works were widely exhibited in Parisian salons, gaining him recognition and notoriety. His unique style and talent caught the eye of many, establishing him as a promising figure in the art world. As a book illustrator, Meunier's works were equally as admired.
