Jozef Hanula

Slovakia 1863-1944

Jozef Hanula, a Slovak painter, received his training at the Regional School for Drawing in Budapest under the guidance of Š. Hollósy, and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Beyond his artistic pursuits, Hanula ventured into the realm of book illustration from 1908, especially in works catering to children and young adults, making significant contributions to the field.

His artistic talents were further exhibited through his paintings of Catholic church interiors in Banská Bystrica (1935), Banská Bystrica-Sásová (1940), and Banská Bystrica-Radvani, among others. In 1919, he co-founded the Association of Slovak Artists in Martin, and his efforts were recognized with the state prize in 1941.
